Detection and discrimination of underwater transient signal

Automatic detection and discrimination of underwater transient signals have been intensely studied.The difficulty lies in the characteristics of sudden bursting of the signals,i.e.,they last for very short time and appear only once.We study automatic detection and discrimination of underwater transient signals produced by rapidly moving targets.As traditional methods are unsuitable,a technique based on image processing is introduced.The new method takes the "gravity center" and is suitable for engineering practices.Results of field-test show effectiveness of the method.
