Research on ocean acoustic model evaluation

  • The ocean acoustic model is a mathematical description of the physical process of sound propagation in the ocean, which plays an important role in the fields of sonar system design and performance prediction, acoustic retrieval of marine environmental parameters. To this day, more than 240 Marine acoustic models have been developed and formed. For different application scenarioss, how to choose the most suitable model from many models has become the focus of attention of the majority of model users. Based on the summary of the current status of marine acoustic model evaluation at home and abroad, this paper proposes the steps and methods for ocean acoustic model evaluation based on the classic VV&A (Verification, Validation and Accreditation) modeling theory. Taking the sound propagation model as an example, it elaborates on the matters needing attention during the evaluation process, analyzes the limitations of the evaluation methods, and provides references for ocean acoustic model evaluation and model selection.
