Research on the influence of music tempo on altruistic behavior according to construal level
-
Abstract
Music exists in all aspects of life through impacting individual cognition and then affecting behavioral decision-making. The construal level is introduced to study the mediating mechanism between music tempo and altruistic behavior. By systematic behavioral experiments, it is found that compared with fast-paced music, slow-paced music can improve the personal construal level, which drives people to donate more money in charity activities, that is, slow-paced music is more helpful for people to show altruistic behavior. As a medium variable, the construal level affects the altruistic behavior of music tempo. This shows that different musical tempo can bring about different construal levels, thus stimulating different altruistic behaviors.
