Abstract: A comprehensive description in the research progress of the modal theory of acoustic radiation and its applications is made in this paper. The achievements which have been made since the beginning of establishing the modal theory of acoustic radiation and the application results of this theory in active structural acoustic control, noise source identification and acoustic field reconstruction are introduced. Several key problems in the development of acoustic radiation modal technology are analyzed, and the prospect of its future development is presented.
